How Meghan and Harry’s Baby Will Be Raised Differently Than the Cambridge Children

Say cheese
Royal watchers were torn between shock and delight over the way in which the Duchess of Cambridge looked flawless posing with her newborns just hours after their births. Don’t expect the same from Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. A reporter for the Sun said on an episode of the On Heir podcast that Meghan isn’t prepared to pose for photos so quickly as it “doesn’t align with her feminist views.” Frankly, we imagine most new mothers would want to break from that photo tradition. This is how Harry and Meghan’s first child will change the succession to the throne.
Plenty of frequent flyer miles
While Will and Kate’s kiddos spend all of their time on the other side of the pond, Meghan and Harry’s little bundle will likely be well-traveled at a very young age. The mom-to-be has already enjoyed a stateside baby shower in New York City with celebrity friends including Serena Williams and Amal Clooney. And her close confidante and U.S.-based makeup artist Daniel Martin says Meghan’s pals are all planning to be involved with the baby. “The next plan is all of us being there for both of them when the baby comes,” Martin told People. “That baby is going to be loved by all of us.”
Back to basics
She may be a royal now, but Meghan is a California girl at heart. It’s speculated that the newest member of the Sussex family will likely be raised in an environment with a keen eye towards natural, organic ingredients and approaches that fall in line with the way the new mom was raised. Meghan has reportedly chosen vegan paints for baby’s nursery at Frogmore Cottage and is stocking up on natural, chemical-free cleaning supplies.
Nanny-free zone
When Will and Kate are away, the Cambridge kiddos are under the watchful eye of a nanny. Maria Teresa Turrion Borralo, the woman who cares for the little royals, is trained in both security and self-defense should an elevated need to protect them arise. Reportedly, though, Meghan and Harry are planning on forgoing a nanny in favor of having the Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, help when she can. According to Marie Claire, Doria is planning on splitting her time between her home base of Los Angeles and the U.K. We’ll be curious to see if the couple makes their child follow these rules imposed on the Cambridge kids.
Modern love
Although the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have broken with tradition a few times since getting engaged, expect a whole lot more of that from the Sussex brood. “Meghan is adamant that her baby follows her modern approach to life,” a royal insider tells Closer Weekly. “She’s adamant that her child will be brought up as an open-minded individual.”
Game of thrones
Because Harry and Meghan’s little one isn’t high up in succession to the throne, he or she is not automatically given a title of Prince or Princess. There is a possibility that Queen Elizabeth II will hand down a decree to change that (as she did for Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis), but if not, Cheat Sheet points out that it gives the Sussex baby a more relaxed approach to being a royal. Harry and Meghan’s cutie can enjoy more time out of the public eye than, say, Prince George, who will have more royal obligations as he gets older since he is currently third in line to the throne.
Country living
The Cambridges spend much of their time living in London, where Prince George attends school and where many of their official royal commitments take place. The Sussexes, on the other hand, have renovated their country abode, Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of the Windsor Estate, and plan on raising the baby there.
