Decorate your home for Hanukkah
Also known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah is an eight-night Jewish celebration that commemorates the rededication of the Temple at Jerusalem after a group of Jewish people called the Maccabees took the Temple back from an enemy king who ruled over it for many years. Though there are several stories about how the holiday came to be, one of them centers on the idea that when the Maccabees went to rededicate the Temple they only had enough oil for one night of candle-burning. Miraculously, the candles continued to burn for eight nights (hence, the eight nights of celebration). Today, celebrations continue to center around lights, but families also incorporate gift-giving, family gatherings, traditional foods like sufganiyot, brisket, and cheese blintzes, and (of course) decorations into their Hanukkah traditions. Are you in need of some new decorations for Hanukkah this year? Our list of the 15 best decorations for the Festival of Lights will get you started in your quest to get your home Hanukkah-ready.
