Vienna, Austria
As Billy Joel sings in his hit song, “Vienna waits for you…” This magical city in all its historical elegance and youthful energy makes for the ideal honeymoon trip to Europe (be sure to check out these tips for stress-free travel before you book). The city takes a lot of pride in its musical heritage, as home to Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, and many other famous composers and musicians. It also has a rich history, including a monarchy that ended in 1918 following the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Many of its buildings were left relatively untouched, so you may feel like you’ve taken a step back in time as you peer at the medieval architecture of St. Stephen’s Cathedral or stroll through Stadtpark, the neo-Renaissance park where Strauss held many of his concerts. Stay at Hotel Bristol, which has chandelier-clad rooms and an art deco style and is centrally located just across from the opera house. Tip: Ask for a top-level room so you can take in morning and evening views of the mountains that encircle the city.

Prague, Czech Republic
Because Prague, Czech Republic, is so centrally located, you can travel to almost every other major European city from here in as little as a two-hour plane ride. But a visit to this mystical, old-world city requires no additional travel—there’s enough to explore and appreciate all on its own. Whether you have a few days or a full week, you’ll be able to see the city in all its grandeur fairly well, especially if you’re staying in one of its castle-like quarters. For a budget-friendly stay, secure a few nights at Mamaison Hotel Riverside Prague, which, as its name suggests, sits right along the Vltava river, the longest body of water running through the Czech Republic. It’s not located in the more crowded neighborhoods, which makes it the perfect romantic hideaway, though the city center and old town are still easily walkable. If you’re budget is flexible and you’re looking for more amenities, check out Boscolo Prague, which features a gorgeous indoor pool and fully functioning spa, where you can book a decadent couple’s massage. To experience authentic Czech cuisine, hit up popular restaurant Kampa Park, a favorite of local and international celebrities and a wine list that boasts over 150 varieties!

Mykonos, Greece
One of the many Greek islands grouped together in the Aegean Sea, Mykonos is mostly known for its epic beach parties and massive dance clubs. Whether or not that’s your cup of tea, or ideal atmosphere for your honeymoon, know this: Even this party-pumping destination has a down season, and Mykonos’ happens to be the autumn. Once the summer party goers, many of whom are college-aged, have cleared out, the once densely packed pristine beaches are left relatively empty. This makes for a romantic hot spot ideal for two madly in love newlyweds. It also means you can score a room at the hottest hotels at a serious discount. Stay at Cavo Tagoo to experience five-star service and a luxe atmosphere at an affordable rate. You can cozy up by their jaw-dropping infinity pool, but remember to bring a jacket, since temperatures can drop to as low as 50 degrees in the fall. Hot spots to dine include Kalita, where you can enjoy classic Greek fare in a garden setting in Mykonos Town, and Bill & Coo Restaurant, which is equally known for their spectacular view of the sunset as they are for their gastronomy-inspired food.

Algarve, Portugal
This coastal country might be best known for its capital, Lisbon, which is a beautiful place to travel (we’ll get to that later), but its southernmost region, the Algarve, is a hidden gem. It’s home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and has a dry, desert-like climate that’s akin to many popular vacation destinations in the Mediterranean, including the French Riviera and the Greek islands. Stay at Anantara Vilamoura, a gorgeous, newly renovated hotel that’s a honeymooning couple’s paradise. In addition to spa treatments galore, and a golf course for sporty types, they have an exclusively adult pool with Veuve Clicquot cabanas (yes, you read that right!). Dry off from your cool, refreshing dip in the pool to enjoy a bubbly glass of Champagne delivered by your server, whom you can ring with a button should you need a refill.

Tuscany, Italy
If you and your spouse are an equal mix of nature lovers, adventure seekers and wine (and pasta) fanatics, the Tuscan region of Italy is calling your name. While there’s no unsightly season in the Italian countryside, the fall possesses a certain charm, with its bright green fields, that is truly unique. If you’re honeymooning in November, you’ll want to take advantage of the start of olive harvest, which usually begins on the first or second of the month. Plus, depending on the weather, you might even luck out on richer truffle season. Where should you stay to take in the best views of the rolling hills and mountains? Book your stay at Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa which sits just over the mountainous Serchio Valley. If you and your new spouse is a foodie, be sure to book a hands-on cooking experience with Feast Tuscany. The company hosts various classes and demonstrations taught by local Italian chefs. It’s certainly one way to take advantage of the bevvy of pastas, cheeses and breads available at your fingertips! Brush up on these Italian phrases before your trip.

Santorini, Greece
There’s a reason this Greek island continues to top nearly every “best honeymoon destination” list year after year. It’s because it’s absolutely breathtaking—everything about it, from the breathtaking and unobstructed views of the caldera that look like actual paintings, to one-of-a-kind sunsets that will be ingrained in your memory long after you’ve returned stateside. Unlike other Greek islands, Santorini remains a popular destination for most months of the year, though it tends to be more quiet in the fall. This means you won’t have any trouble securing a last-minute booking for a sunset cruise with Sunset Oia or an ATV that will have you feeling like you’re riding off into the literal sunset. Santorini is a bigger island than you might think, so you’ll want to be smart about choosing which town to call your home base. West East Suites in Imerovigli is a great choice because it’s centered more closely in the middle of the action—between the romantic town of Oia (pronounced ee-ya) and the island’s capital and downtown area, Firá. A romantic must: Stop by Grace Santorini’s cocktail bar around sunset to take in magical views of Skaros Rock, a fortress used in medieval times, which you’re free to climb during the day and a fun challenge (that is, if you’re not afraid of heights!).

Barcelona, Spain
This enchanting, cosmopolitan city that sits on the coast of Spain’s Catalonia region is known for its art, architecture and history, as well as its world-class dining and party scene. Barcelona effortlessly blends centuries-old museums and buildings with new-age art, fashion and technology. It’s the perfect honeymoon spot for young, energetic lovers hoping to see a new side of the world hand in hand. Since winters are fairly cool and summers can be unbearably hot, the ultimate time to visit is the fall when temperatures usually stay between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Do remember to bring some warm clothes, though, since its coastal location can make for some chilly nights. During the days, consider utilizing the hop-on-hop-off double-decker tour bus as a means to see as much of the city sights as possible—and be sure not to miss the Gothic quarter, Church of the Sacred Family, Barcelona Cathedral and the famous Boqueria Market. For impressive, panoramic views of the entire city, make a pit stop at Meliá Barcelona Sky, one of the city’s tallest and most symbolic buildings, where you can sip refreshing sangria on their stunning terraces. Book your stay at The Cotton House Hotel in the city center. In addition to its prime location, the hotel is housed in a historical landmark. The building was once the site of the Cotton Textile Foundation, or “Fundación Textil Algodonera.” Though the hotel’s designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán made many changes to the building’s structure, he kept many of the original elements including inlaid parquet floor tiles, ceiling frescoes and the famous spiral staircase.

Lake Como, Italy
Aside from your chances of running into George Clooney (he and wife Amal own a house on Lake Como), this alluring, Alpine retreat on the northern border of Italy is a peaceful place to bask in your newlywed bliss. Its beauty and grace is even more enchanting in the autumn, when the climate is more bearable and the touristy crowds have moved out. Your pocket will also thank you. Many restaurants and hotels in the area drop their rates during what’s considered their off-season. Stay at Relais Villa Vittoria, which has a private villa-feel for a reasonable price. It has a relaxed, sophisticated Italian vibe and sits atop the shores of the lake. You and your new Mr. or Mrs. can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the stunning snow-capped mountains. Spend your days sipping champagne on the terrace or lakefront garden, swimming in the resort’s glass-rimmed infinity pool or take a quick ferry ride over to nearby lake towns and villages. Add these healthy alternatives to pasta to your diet before your trip, then load up on the real thing when you’re there.

Paris, France
It doesn’t get much more romantic than saying your “I dos,” before whisking away together as a newlywed couple to the city of lights. Paris is worth visiting any day of the year—it’s always a tourist magnet. But there’s something very special about experiencing the city and its sights in all its grandeur in the autumn. First thing first: It’s way less congested. High season is from May to mid September, when the air is hot and humid and the lines to get into the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe are what seems like miles long. In the fall, you have instant (or close to it) access to everything the city has to offer. Additionally, the foliage is at its peak, as the real outdoors and nature imitates the watercolor paintings you’ll see at the Louvre. Head to the Jardin du Luxembourg, perhaps the most famous park in Paris, for a particularly romantic stroll. Stay at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, which is centrally located in the heart of the city right next to the historic building it is named for, Place Vendôme. It’s also walking distance from Champs-Élysées, an area in the 8th arrondissement known for its theaters, cafés, and boutique shops. If you can, escape the city one day and take a 30-minute train ride on Rail Europe to visit the lavish Palace of Versailles, constructed in the early 1700s for King Louis XIV. Here are the French phrases every citizen of the world should know.

Florence, Italy
If you identify more as city dwellers than a country folk, you’ll feel right at home amidst Florence’s busy, cobblestone streets with bars and restaurants at every corner. But this vibrant Italian city likely is starkly different than your beloved cities from back home. It houses masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture at every corner, including some of the world’s most iconic sights that have been around since 11th and 12th centuries. One landmark you won’t have to worry about overlooking is the Duomo, Florence’s main cathedral which stands tall over the magnificent city and can be seen from most elevated areas. You’ll also want to wander down the street to the Piazza della Signoria, a historic part of the city center that features dozens of beautiful sculptures featuring many mythical characters you’ve read about in history class. Art lovers won’t want to miss the Uffizi Gallery, one of the world’s most renowned art museum located adjacent to the Piazza della Signoria. Stay at the Lungarno Hotel for unobstructed views of the Ponte Vecchio, the famous arch bridge that sits between Florence’s two sides.

Munich, Germany
If you and your spouse are big fans of beer, brats, pretzels and schnapps, you’ll have no trouble getting accustomed to this playful and boisterous German city. It is most famous for its Bavarian Volksfest celebration known as Oktoberfest, which has become something of an international holiday in recent decades, with many early German settlements in the states hosting annual festivals. If you happen to travel to Munich over the three-week stretch from mid September to early October, you’ll find yourself right in the middle of all the fun. A beer festival might not conjure up feelings of romance, but this celebration is actually rooted in love and marriage. The very first Oktoberfest was on October 12, 1810 for the purpose of celebrating the newly wed Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese! Make The Charles Hotel your home base for the duration of your stay, a modern hotel in the heart of historic Munich. The hotel’s concierge can organize day excursions so you can explore fairytale castles and soak up the beautiful scenery of Bavaria, as well as private tours of the famous Lenbachhaus museum. Here’s how to stay safe in your hotel room.

Lucerne, Switzerland
Set on a huge lake—the fourth largest in the country—with stunning views of the Swiss Alps, Lucerne is a true hidden gem of a honeymoon destination. While we doubt you’ll get sick of staring at the shoreline views, there’s plenty of other things to see and experience during a visit to this Alpine establishment. It has a charming medieval quarter full of cobblestone streets and historic buildings including the 14th century Chapel Bridge, which spans part of the lake in Old Town, and the Water Tower, an even older landmark is the Water Tower that dates back to 1300. Stay at Palace Hotel at Buergenstock Resort, formerly known as a Belle Époque, which reopened in August 2017 after eight years of meticulous restoration and architectural preservation. Don’t worry, this hotel fits in well with the rich history surrounding it. It’s been in existence since 1904! If brand-new and modern is your thing, instead stay at Bürgenstock Hotel, where many famous couples, including Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer and Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, lived for many years! Find out how to score a hotel room upgrade—gratis!

Lisbon, Portugal
This coastal capital city is nearly postcard-perfect, with its hill-y landscape, Portuguese-tiled streets, pink and yellow sunset, and classic homes with iconic red roofs. Not only is it known for its charm and romance, but it’s also relatively affordable—you can expect to order a glass of wine for less than 2 euros! In the fall, temperatures in Lisbon couldn’t be more ideal, remaining in the 70s well into October. For a modern and affordable stay that’s centrally located and walking distance from all of the key sights, book the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Lisbon. Nearby attractions include Bairro Alto, Lisbon’s bohemian, culture hub with tons of shops and a thriving nightlife, Chiado, a sophisticated district of theaters, bookshops, boutiques and more, the famous Gulbenkian Museum and neighboring cities including Sintra, Cascais and Est. For a panoramic view of the city, stop by Bairro Alto Hotel’s rooftop around sunset to enjoy a cocktail and take in the pink and orange sky. Find out all the hotel booking secrets you need to know.

Zurich, Switzerland
Perhaps best known as a winter sport enthusiast’s paradise, Zurich has much more to offer aside from its proximity to idyllic, high-Alpine ski terrain. The city in the fall is usually not cold enough to ski and snowboard, and not warm enough to attract the massive crowds that fill the streets between the end of May and beginning of September. This makes for the cheapest hotel rates you’ll find than any other time of the year. And the city is still as charming as ever, with its immaculate streets and vibrant culture. Zurich is known as the financial epicenter of the world, but also has a unique hippie and artsy culture that embraces current trends in the worlds of fashion and style. Stay at the historic Baur au Lac situated in the heart of the city. It’s been owned by the same family for six generations and specializes in honeymoon packages that will make even the most non-romantic character blush uncontrollably. Their Wine & Dine Weekend package includes a two-night stay as well as transfer (by Rolls Royce, might we add) to the vineyard of Erich Meier for a guided wine tour and tasting. Once you shake off your hangover the next morning, make a visit to the Swiss National Museum and The Fraumünster Church. Check out these outrageous hotel room amenities that are worth booking a trip for.

Venice, Italy
This captivating city that sits, quite literally, atop a body of water is a honeymoon favorite for a number of reasons, but we’ll start with the fact that there’s literally no where in the world like it. It is built on a chain of 118 tiny islands that are interconnected by canals that serve the function of roads. You can only travel in Venice by boat and there are no cars in sight (there aren’t even roads for cars to drive on). While you aren’t left with many other options, this is the perfect city to explore by foot since it’s relatively small and has historic sights at every corner. Stay at Ca’ Barba, an adorable little bed and breakfast located just steps away from Venice’s famed Rialto bridge. In addition to fresh-baked croissants and bread, as well as fruit, yogurt and freshly brewed espresso, you’ll receive sightseeing tips and suggestions from owner and Venice native, Alessandro, whose passion for his city will inspire your trip. To experience Venice in all its romantic splendor, take a gondola ride just before dinner as the sun is setting. It’s an unforgettable experience you and your spouse will remember forever. By day, take a leisurely stroll through Piazza San Marco, visit the Basilica di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale and explore the tiny passageways and caverns adorning the city.

Provence, France
If you’re looking for a European honeymoon destination that is a perfect middle ground between beach town and vibrant city, look no further than the South of France. All of the wedding-planning stress will melt away once you and your newly wedded partner in crime embark on your journey along the Côte d’Azur. Start out in Nice, located in the coastal area by the Mediterranean Sea. It’s sandwiched between the stunning French Riviera and the other hotspots like St. Tropez and Monaco, where you can explore on day trips. The fall temperatures couldn’t be better—soaring no higher than 80 degrees and usually dipping no lower than 65. It is known to get particularly chilly at night, however, so be sure to pack some warm clothing—and definitely a light jacket. For an affordable hotel that still feels like luxury, stay at Hotel la Perouse, which is right on the water. Though, if you want to splurge on a pricier place to post up, fall is the time to do it, as rates are usually lower. You can’t go wrong with the famed Four Seasons Grand Hotel Du Cap-Ferrat, with its panoramic views of the Mediterranean, indulgent spa and private sea-view yoga classes.

Bruges, Belgium
Sandwiched between France and the Netherlands is the impossibly quaint little country of Belgium, home to picturesque towns, a diverse and charismatic culture and some of the world’s most beloved comfort food. Since it’s relatively, you won’t need to limit yourselves to one city only—they’re all connected by trains and most destinations are under one hour away. It’s prime location makes it easy to visit nearby countries as well. Brussels, the official capital, is a city worth a visit, but to ooze the most romance out of your experience, we recommend spending the majority of your time in Bruges, a fairy-tale-esque medieval town marked with cobblestone streets and winding canals. It’s one of the biggest tourist spots in Belgium, though the streets clear out towards the fall months. Stay at Hotel Heritage which combines modern-day comfort with the sophisticated elegance of centuries past. A must: End (or begin!) your honeymoon with a boat ride along the canals—which a glass of champagne in hand, of course.

Berlin, Germany
The great capital of Germany, Berlin exudes culture, sophistication, creativity and a rich history that is expressed through its architecture and landmarks. It’s a vibrant and youthful city, ideal for the honeymooners who want to be on their feet, or on a bike, exploring all day and party until the crack of dawn (most bars and clubs don’t even get going until after 1 a.m.!). Because the city was tragically destroyed during World War II, the entire infrastructure is relatively new, meaning the public transportation system is superior to that of New York and Chicago, the streets are actually wide enough to fit the amount of people passing through, and skyscrapers stand next to some of the historic buildings still standing. To sneak in some romantic pampering, stay at Hotel Adlon Kempinski located in the heart of the city right next to the famous Brandenburg Gate. You won’t have to fight another honeymooning couple for the hotel’s only suite—there are 78 available and are almost never fully booked towards the late fall. During these months guests can also take advantage of all the Oktoberfest festivities in Germany, as well as the beautiful fall foliage.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
If you’re looking for a vibrant culture, relaxed romantic vibe and rich history, a honeymoon stopover in Amsterdam will not disappoint. Often compared to Venice, since it is arguably just as charming and also happens to be surrounded by water, Amsterdam is unique in many ways—the first is likely that it is not totally without roads where cars and buses can drive. It is, however, mostly characterized by bicycles and public transportation, including an underground line that runs north and south of the city. Just as the rest of Europe, tourist crowds clear out in the fall months, making it a much more idyllic setting for a honeymoon. History buffs will jump at the chance to stay at the NH Collection Doelen, the oldest hotel in all of Amsterdam with a prime location that’s smack-dab in the city center. Over three centuries the hotel has hosted some legendary guests including Empress Elisabeth of Australia and the Beatles. It’s within walking distance to everything: popular museums, including the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House, shopping district and iconic tourist destinations such as the Royal Palace and Vondelpark.

Wicklow, Ireland
Just an hour’s drive outside Dublin is the Wicklow Mountains, where all of your rural vacation fantasies will come true. It is entirely covered by the National Park, which is a conserved body of thriving greenland, and stretches through three additional counties including Dublin, Wexford and Carlow. On your journey, visit the majestic gardens at Powerscourt, one of the most beautiful in the entire country. Set aside one day to rent a car and drive through Sally Gap, a long, winding road that offers spectacular views of the surrounding blanket bog and mountaintops. For some post-wedding pampering, visit the infamous and adult-only Monart Spa in Wexford. You’ll be given a pair of soft, comfy slippers and a white, fluffy robe and free access to the spa’s aw-inducing amenities including a pebble pool, Swedish log cabin sauna, Aromatic Steam room with eucalyptus vapor and more. To relax further, and slumber of course, stay at Tinakilly Country House, a sophisticated hotel in a Victorian country house set on 14 acres of lush gardens overlooking the Irish Sea.

Dubrovnik, Croatia
If you’re looking for the charm and allure of an Italian honeymoon, without as hefty as a price tag, consider jetting off to nearby Croatia, a country known for its rolling hills, stone arches, secret gardens and pristine beaches. Nearly everything is affordable, from the cafes and restaurants to the tourist sights local activities. By September the summer crowds have come and gone, leaving the winding roads and ancient landscape for you and your significant other to explore freely. Among the many Croatian towns to add to your must-see list, we recommend kicking off your romantic getaway in Dubrovnik, a southern city that faces the Adriatic Sea. It’s known for its distinctive Old Town and well-preserved historic landmarks such as Renaissance Sponza Palace and Gothic Rector’s Palace. Stay at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, a five-star, beachfront resort that will pleasantly shock you with its economical price tag. It boosts three pools, two outdoor and one indoor at the spa, a scuba diving center, tennis court and more. Honeymooners can sip sparkling wine from their balcony, which overlooks the Elaphite Islands and enjoy a candlelit dinner for two at the hotel’s Maslina Tavern.

Madrid, Spain
For honeymooners in search of a romantic trip to Spain that doesn’t involve late-night clubbing and boisterous bar-hopping, the country’s capital provides the perfect balance. Madrid is still a large city, but it’s far more laid back culture and is less crowded than Barcelona—though during fall both cities are significantly more empty than during the high seasons of spring and summer. September through November couldn’t be more ideal for those looking to explore all the city has to offer, since the weather averages 70. Compare that to the 105-degree summers Madrid is often known for and you’ll be glad you got married around the time that you did!Stay at ME Madrid, which is located smack in the middle of three sites you’ll want to add to your must-see list: Plaza de Jacinto Benavente, Casa Museo Lope de Vega and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. You’ll also want to take advantage of Madrid’s stunning centuries-old gardens, specifically Real Jardin Botanico. With tapas restaurants serving delicious foods and flavorful sangrias at every corner, you won’t have to worry about finding a great spot to eat and sip!

Budapest, Hungary
If you’re looking to explore some of Europe’s most historic and stunning sights without having to fight through crowds of tourists lining the streets and factor in hours of time waiting in lines, head to Budapest, Hungary. For decades this capital city was left off the bucket lists of most travelers, since it was ruled by communists after World War II, but with Hungary’s entrance into the EU in 2004, recent generations are showing interest in its rich history, physical beauty and eclectic culture. Hungarians by nature are some of the kindest, most generous people you’ll ever meet, though their ancestors have been through unimaginable experiences. You can expect big smiles and warm embraces, but distinctly different personality traits than you might be used to back in the states. If you want to be treated like a Hungarian royalty, stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, which sits right at the end of the renowned Chain Bridge and overlooks the Danube river and rolling hills of Buda. If you’re looking for a top-notch hotel that’s a bit more budget-friendly, opt for Corinthia Hotel Budapest located on the Grand Boulevard, which has a complimentary juice bar and gorgeous pool decorated with Corinthian columns.

London, UK
The capital and heart of Great Britain might not be the first European city to pop into your head when you’re planning a romantic honeymoon, but its historic landmarks, laidback culture and cheeky charm is sure to guarantee an unforgettable trip. (Be sure to brush up on why Brits and Americans drive on different sides of the road before you go.) There’s no shortage of international flights, no matter when you book your ticket, and it’s quite easy to get around using their public transportation system, which locals refer to as “the tube.” Temperatures are a bit chilly, starting as early as September, but you likely won’t experience it dip below 50 before November. Plus, the autumn foliage is sure to add some colorful highlights to your photos. For an ultra romantic experience, stay at Hotel 41, a five-star intimate retreat that overlooks the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace. It’s also just steps away from Victoria Station, so you’ll have prime access to exploring the rest of the city with ease. The hotel also features a glass-roofed room, which makes stargazing in bed, in the middle of London, England, a total reality. Among the many sights to visit, don’t miss Big Ben (not that you could miss him!), the London Eye, Tower of London, The British Museum, Notting Hill (yes, the neighborhood that inspired the rom-com) and Abbey Road.

Brussels, Belgium
For those ready to leave summer’s heat and humidity far behind, Brussel’s cool, crisp and colorful autumnal season will be a sight for sore eyes. It’s the official capital of the tiny country of Belgium and is home to EU institutions, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization headquarters and a myriad of organizations, famous politicians and local celebrities. Whether you’re an outdoor and adventurous type of couple or prefer a laid back, cocktail-in-hand viewpoint of a new city, ancient and iconic Brussels offers a little bit of something for everyone. Take advantage of the city’s thriving art scene, which offers some of the best antiquing in the world, indulge in the culinary classics Belgium is known for, including Belgian waffles, fries and chocolates. Stay right in the heart of the romance at Hotel Amigo, which is centered amidst the cobblestone streets and is just around the corner from the picturesque Grand Place, one of the most photographed squares in the world. Other sites to put on your must-see list include Cinquantenaire, Atomium, Royal Museums of Fine Arts and the Royal Palace of Brussels.

Istanbul, Turkey
If you know your geography, you’re well aware that Istanbul is not the capital of this Middle Eastern country (which still belongs to Europe), though it is certainly the most popular city within its borders. Just like its location, it has the sophisticated charm of European cities with the exotic allure of the Asian countries to its east. The best times to see the sights are fall and spring, so honeymooners looking to travel between September and November are in luck. Temperatures usually hover between 60-80-degrees Fahrenheit. Hotel prices are surprisingly reasonable in this attractive city, so you can spring for a honeymoon-worthy room at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet for the price of a tiny, boutique hotel in Paris. It offers all of the luxury and pampering you’re looking for on your honeymoon in a site that once was a neoclassical Turkish prison. It’s also just steps away from some of the city’s top landmarks including Sultanahmet Mosque, AKA the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the markets at the Grand Bazaar and Basilica Cistern.

Positano, Amalfi Coast
If Italy had a “Hamptons,” it would undoubtedly be the Amalfi coast, a rugged stretch of coastline where breathtakingly beautiful hotels sit practically atop one another and overlook the crystal-clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. The result? Some of the most unique and exquisite beach towns you’ll ever see. While the Amalfi Coast is home to several small Italian villages, one of the most romantic is without question Positano. It has everything honeymooners need to relax, unwind and bathe in marital bliss. Since Amalfi is a favorite vacation spot of local Italians and international travelers alike, it’s not cheap—but as the summer crowds clear out, the fall prices decline. You can find a great deal, even at more high-end hotels like Sireneuse Hotel, which boasts beautiful views of the sunset and is home to Michelin-starred restaurant, La Sponda. If you don’t mind shacking up closer to the water’s edge, Villa Rosa is a much more affordable option which offers a unique view of the town: looking up towards the hills. There’s much to see along the within the windy, uphill roads, you’ll definitely want to set aside one day to explore the ritzy island of Capri which you can access easily by boat.

Granada, Spain
This city in Southern Spain, located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, is unique in many ways. While it embraces its Spanish culture, it has strong ties to both Muslim and African heritages. This has much to do with its close proximity to neighboring African countries, but also because Granada was under Muslim control for over 700 years. Today it’s a fairly young city, with a student-driven nightlife, but it has a fair balance between fun and vibrant and calm and quaint. During the fall you can expect fairly mild climates—nothing too cold and, thankfully, nothing too hot like the temperatures in the summer months. You also won’t have to worry about humidity creeping up on you, since the area is quite dry. A charming and romantic place to stay is Gar Anat Hotel Boutique, an upscale hotel that was converted from a 17th-century hospital. It’s centrally located, so you’ll have access to all of the city’s sights within walking distance. Among them, be sure not to miss the Alhambra, a palace and fortress featuring Roman remains, a Renaissance building, Palace of Charles V, and Palacio de Generalife, the summer palace and country estate of the Nasrid rulers of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus.

Rome, Italy
One of the most famous cities in the world, thanks to its rich architectural history featuring some of the oldest ruins still in existence, artistic masterpieces and home of Vatican City, a tourist destination that alone draws a reported 4.2 million tourists each year. There’s plenty for honeymooners to experience in the city’s ancient walls, from the Colosseum, an oval amphitheater built between 70 and 80 CE (which has been left relatively intact!) to the Pantheon, a former Roman temple built between 118 to 128 AD during the reign of Augustus. Some of the more romantic sights include the Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous and grandiose fountains in the world, the Villa Borghese, a landscape garden that contains a number of museums and historical attractions and the Pincio Gardens, lush, hilly greenery that was home to many of ancient Rome’s most important families. Stay at Gran Meliá Rome, a hotel that stands on the site of what was once the Villa of Agrippina, the mother of Emperor Nero. It’s centrally located, close to the Tiber river and within walking distance to many of Rome’s most treasured churches, markets and squares.

Edinburgh, Scotland
Scotland’s capital city has all of the right components to satisfy honeymooners looking for a European escape. It’s a city of rich, medieval history and youthful energy, thanks to its many study-abroad students. It’s also undeniably romantic with its compact, winding roads and pristine, cobblestone streets. For a quiet and country setting amidst the city, stay at Prestonfield House, a luxury hotel located in one of Edinburgh’s most historic buildings and next to the stunning Arthur’s Seat, the city’s main peak atop of which you can see some of the most capture-worthy views. For those looking to take advantage of the city’s nightlife, the hotel is just a short 10-minute walk from the bars and restaurants.
