Disney JUST Shared Its Mickey Mouse Beignet Recipe—Now You Can Make It at Home!

This is straight from New Orleans Square!

In case there was ever any doubt, Disney has proven it’s the absolute best during these stay-at-home days. The company is really doing its best to give fans ways to keep busy—they’ve released a ton of beloved recipes from the parks. They also released the Disney World restaurant secret that allows them to throw out as little food as possible. But today, Mickey and friends are inviting us to make Mickey Mouse beignets.

This Is Fluffy, Fried Goodness

This beignet recipe comes straight from the Disney Parks blog. It originates from New Orleans Square and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, which is probably why the blog says it’s a perfect treat to enjoy while watching The Princess and the Frog.

We’re so excited to try these that we’re practically drooling. Sure, they’re not the healthiest snack, but everybody knows that calories consumed in quarantine don’t count, right? Right. Here’s why you should be baking your way through quarantine.

How to Make Mickey Mouse Beignets

If you’re looking for a print-at-home version of the recipe, you can find one on the Disney blog. This recipe makes 10 large Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets or 24 small beignets.

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar

Step 1: Make the dough

Sprinkle the yeast over warm water in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve. Let stand for 5 minutes. (This process is called proofing.)

Combine the sugar, shortening, salt, heavy cream, egg, flour and boiling water in a large bowl. Then, stir in yeast mixture. With the dough hook attachment of your stand mixer, mix the dough on medium speed just until combined and smooth. Let dough rest for 30 minutes.

Editor’s Tip: Parents, your kids can help with this recipe! Let ’em measure and add dry ingredients.

Step 2: Mold your Mickeys

Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut individual beignets with a Mickey Mouse-shaped cutter like this. (You can also cut the dough into 2-1/2 to 3-inch squares.) Cover with a towel and let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

Step 3: Time to fry

Heat 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350° F in a deep, heavy pot over medium-high heat. Fry beignets until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Remove with tongs and place on paper towels to drain.

Dust warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve ASAP! Here are some other fun things to bake at home with bored kids!
