What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez

What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez by Claire Jiménez

Twelve years ago, Ruthy Ramirez went missing. And her family hasn’t been the same since. Now it’s 2008, and Mom Dolores is still lost in her grief. Older sister Jessica is juggling a new baby and a demanding career. And youngest sister Nina has returned home from college to find herself in a dead-end job at the mall.

But everything changes when the sisters see Ruthy on TV. Well, maybe Ruthy. The girl on the reality show looks so much like an adult version of their long-lost sister that they hatch a plan to drive to the show’s filming location in search of answers.

Joined by their mother and her friend, the group sets off on an adventure that’ll force the Ramirez women to face the past and finally start living for the future.

What we love:

  • The exploration of family bonds
  • Its four compelling narrators (including Ruthy!)
  • The road trip to a reality show
  • The mix of humor and heart

Books for Young Readers

Fostering a love of reading early in childhood is one of the best ways to turn your kids into lifelong book lovers. In fact, most adults can point to the children’s books that changed their lives. But so-called books for kids have a wider appeal—just ask all the grown-ups hooked on YA novels.

Books Fit for Gifting

There are books you read for the characters and those you read to learn about real-life heroes. Both types make great gifts, but there are plenty of other books and bookish goodies that avid readers will enjoy too.

Audiobooks for All

We don’t care what anyone says: Listening to audiobooks counts as reading. And for a lot of people, it’s the best way to stay on top of an out-of-control reading list. So pick your next great read, turn up the car stereo and get ready to escape into a great story.
